Instead of demolishing the original sports hall, OYO and Oskar chose to reuse and reinvent it. The existing structure will serve as a covered space and form the heart of the Denderdal site, reconnecting the neighbourhood with the banks of the Dender river.
Charmed by the green atmosphere that already exists on the Denderdal site today, we soften the boundaries between the building and its surroundings.
We believe in designing for the community: the concept naturally facilitates shared use of the sports hall, library, and gymnasium by various associations beyond regular school hours.
The most sustainable building is one that reinvents itself and continues to provide a relevant solution to the ever-changing needs of its (new and future) users. We deliberately design the building as a rational, robust and modular structure that will be able to adapt to the unknown future in both the long and short term.
