Showcasing urban industry and innovation

Together with DDS+, we designed a proposal for an innovative activity park at the head end of Tivoli GreenCity, the first sustainable mixed-use district in Brussels. Aiming high and leading for change, we prioritised 6 core themes that build up the framework for this design.

1. Interaction with the dense neighbourhood

Rooftop

The rooftop greenhouse plays a valuable role in fostering interaction with neighborhood, serving as a pilot platform for urban agriculture projects or as an educational tool in collaboration with nearby schools.

2. Creating a green-blue landscape

By growing native plants that attract pollinators and other wildlife in their natural habitats, we create vibrant ecosystems in urban environments.

Water is being buffered as much as possible, while providing multiple sources to transfer water from the Earth's surface to the atmosphere through evapotranspiration.

Evapotranspiration forms a crucial part of the water cycle, influencing various aspects of the ecosystem, including water availability, climate and plant productivity. It is also important for understanding and managing water resources, especially in agriculture.

3. Flexibility and adaptability within a robust framework

4. An open, inclusive and accessible (work) environment

Horeca

Building on the success of Greenbizz I, this new development continues to shape a vibrant district with the restaurant at the heart of the site. This socially engaged space embraces diversity and supports a wide range of entrepreneurial voices offering room for ideas, creation and sustainable growth in the city.

Facade housing

The design is intentionally structured for adaptability: the building is envisioned to be able to fully transform into apartments if needed.

5. A circular approach that is future proof

Section technics 01

We conceptualise Greenbizz II as an energy-neutral fossil-free project that annually generates as much renewable energy as it consumes for structural consumption.

6. Reinforcing the identity of the site by stimulating a diverse mix of activities and entrepreneurship

The facades open up to the city and act as windows into a diverse ecosystem of urban production and enterprise. Hospitality functions may naturally evolve here, blurring the line between workspace and community hub.
